I am Debora from The Netherlands. In this personal letter I would like to introduce myself to you. I am a Dutch girl of (almost) 17 years old and living in Leiden, a city with about 120.000 inhabitants. It is also my birth place. I was born a happy baby in the biggest hospital of this town. For a long time now, say, more than five years, I long to visit China. Although I am Dutch, I studied Chinese and English from my earliest years on. So, the Chinese culture and language are not completely strange to me. Nevertheless, English is my second language after Dutch; Chinese is a good third, following English closely. I learned English at Elementary school and High School. Last August 2017 I even went to Malta to join an English language school for a month, to improve my English language skills and become more fluently. Even at home, with my father, I often had conversations in English. I was raised by two lovely parents (well, most of the time they are lovely), who taught me to be responsible and disciplined. Good morals, respect for elderly people (and for my parents), culture and music, and above all doing good. I really would like to stay at your house and family for the purpose of assisting you with the care for your children and helping your children to improve their English language. I could talk English with them, sing English children songs together and play (simple) language games (for a start). I could teach your children how to read and write in English and how to act in certain situations, for instance how to order a bowl of noodles in a restaurant. And … I am looking forward to tell your children bedtime stories before they go to sleep. Of course all in English. At my age of almost seventeen I dare to say, that I am a responsible and persistent young woman. I love to work and study hard. Even now after my graduation I often work eleven hours a day, in a supermarket and a restaurant. Beside that I weekly clean the house of a Canadian man, with whom I talk English all the time. My hobbies are playing badminton, playing the violin (I started to play the violin when I was five), singing (took some singing classes), dancing (took ballet lessons) and learning Chinese. I have a lot of patience with teaching English to other people and I will have a lot of patience with your children. We can do a lot of games as well to make the English lessons even more fun. I will turn 17 in November 1th, I hope I can go to China right after I turned 17 and stay with you. I am not an adult yet, but I can tell you that I definitely can take the pressure. I am strong and I will never give up. Of course I need to get used to a new environment but I will get used to it very fast. You won't regret choosing me as your Au pair. I will be very good at it and won't disappoint you.
